Chief City of the largest Province in Piedmont, therefore known as the “ Great Province , Cuneo is a quiet city, which carries its proud and glorious history with elegance. Of medieval origin, it was a free ‘Comune' until the mid 13 th Century, when it came under the control of the Angioini, then of Saluzzo and the Visconti. From the end of the 1330s, the House of Savoy became well-known for the seven sieges that took place between 1500and 1700; Cuneo still today retains the feel of a border town, memories of the Savoy identity and of the influence of nearby France . The old urban centre, in the characteristic shape of a wedge (‘ cuneo ' in Italian), displays some lovely monuments of “Piedmont Baroque”. The Church of the Jesuits , the Parish Church of St. Ambrogio and the Church of St. Croce .

Cuneo , with its Baroque elegance and its tasty gastronomic festivals, summarizes provincial elegance. It is rich in history and renowned all over the world for its typical products; primarily its wine and truffles. Indeed, on the gentle slopes of the Langhe and Roero , nature and man's care have given life to some of the best-known vines in the world; Exceptional wine cellars produce Barbera, Barbaresco, Dolcetto, Barolo that the visitor can taste alongside a tasty and refined cuisine, in the lovely villages of Alba , Bra , Saluzzo , Barolo etc... .
Events
The most important events of Cuneo and its province are those linked to the exceptional food and wine products of the area. The well-known Chestnut Festival is held in Cuneo from 4th to 7th October with food tasting, food stalls and sales of products. In Alba, the Langhe capital, there are two events in the course of the year that shouldn’t be missed: the National Truffle Fair which takes place in the first weeks of October and where you can buy the prized tubers or taste them in numerous restaurants; and Vinum, in the second half of April, a fair dedicated to wines, where wines can be tasted and bought.
